Think about it: From the DJ booth, the view is usually one messy mob of dancing and drink-spilling bodies, moving up and down to the swells and sway of the beat. It’s probably not pretty, but it’s a part of the job.
A rare opportunity to sit face-to-face with these DJs is headed to Andaz San Diego. Instead of another night of debauchery, you’ll enter into an intriguing discussion with San Diego’s top local beat-makers. This new Behind the Beat digital music forum will launch on November 14 starting at 7pm.
From current trends in the music industry to controversial hot topics surrounding electronic dance music, nothing will be off-limits. The first of the bi-monthly series will feature locally loved DJs Scooter and Mikey Beats leading the panel. The two will converse on the issue of “Old School vs. New School” covering topics such as the use of vinyl versus digital files, a DJ's role at a concert, creating pre-recorded sets and more. They’ll then partake in an interactive Q&A with guests, followed by live demos.
While the panel is locally-sourced, both DJs on board boast a wealth of high-profile experience to draw upon in discussion. DJ Scooter has been voted San Diego’s best hip-hop DJ for four years, and is an invaluable component of Sleeping Giant Music. Mikey Beats is part-owner of Sleeping Giant Music and Monster Energy Drink’s resident touring DJ.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear it straight from the DJs and get an insight into the direction of digital music. Free, open to the public. For more information about Andaz San Diego, visit andazsandiego.com
