High heels, long lines and collared shirts are just a few requirements when attempting a night out in the Gaslamp Quarter.
Although that is often part of the fun, some of us just want to be able to cruise around Fifth Avenue without worrying about the dress code. Henry's Pub, restaurant by day, dance party by night, takes some of the pressure off attire. To put it simply, Henry's is the Jack and Coke of downtown.
While there is no guarantee that Henry's is line-free, the bands and DJs each week are often worth waiting for. From blues to rock, and everything in between, Henry's is usually entertaining in some way, shape or form of live music. During the after-dinner hours, a part of the dining room is cleared to make way for a dance floor that tends to get crowded with drink-spillers and feet-crushers of all kinds especially on Friday and Saturday nights, (so beware if you have any inclinations towards claustrophobia).
If not into the whole bopping and weaving scene, Henry's provides plenty of tables and booths for the rest of us who prefer to "observe." The patio is also an excellent perch for people watching and slinking away for a social cig. Like most places downtown, the drinks are more expensive than your average neighborhood bar. But if you're an early bird and you want a quiet place to relax hit up Henry's happy hour from 4-7pm as the atmosphere at Henry's Pub is just the place for a post-work cocktail.
Insider Tip: Even if you're not a blues lover, Lady Dottie and the Diamonds on Wednesday nights is an encounter not to be overlooked. Definitely one of the best times I've ever had downtown with good friends, cold beer, and fine tunes.
