If “kicking ass, then having a snack” doesn’t sound like the most appealing way to spend a Friday night, then you might want to reconsider your taste in music. At least, that’s how Israeli progressive electronic DJ duo Infected Mushroom describes itself. Erez Aizen (known as I.Zen) and Amit Duvdevani (aka Duvdev) hail from the city of Haifa in northern Israel, but now innovate the psy-trance world from their LA studios. And they’re bringing their rock-infused beats to San Diego with a full band concert on August 6th at 4th and B.
When your acoustic tunes and rap jams just don’t fill your cravings to dance the night away, one of the biggest international electronic duos has just the fix. Twice-ranked among the world’s 10 best DJs, Infected Mushroom brings an explosive show to the stage. Unparalleled by any other electronic band, the boys of Infected Mushroom pledge more than turn-tables to get your toes a-tappin’ and booty a-shakin’. The show also features live guitars, drums, Duvdev’s tantalizing vocals, Erez’s fresh keyboarding, and a bold multimedia backdrop to embrace all of your senses.
On their seventh and most recent studio album, Legend of the Black Shawarma, Jonathan Davis of the famed Korn adds his talents to the track “Smashing the Opponent.” Not to mention, Jane’s Addiction front man Perry Farrell joins in on the follow-up single, “Killing Time.” Food seems to be a main fixation on this album (yeah, that’s what got me hooked, too); Many of the songs celebrate some of the bands favorite places to dine around the world. But that’s not to say that intense subject matter is thrown out the window.
The band prides itself in embracing deeper issues through their lyrics, distinguishing the music from simple dance beats to engaging songs. Energetic is an understatement, as the tunes uniquely fuse metallic rock and dance-floor beats on a whole new level.
Creating tracks and trance music since 1998, Infected Mushroom’s music has consistently evolved to more aggressive on metal and breakbeat levels. These guys are no newbies to the scene, either. They’ve already rocked millions as Coachella Music Festival, the Ultra Music Festival in Miami, and the Virgin Festival in Baltimore, and they still find time to average about 120 live performances per year.
Tailored especially for you on August 6th in San Diego, Duvdev and Erez road-tested several of their tracks in dance clubs and adjusted them based on audience response. Heavy, yet totally danceable, Infected Mushroom can’t really rub you the wrong way. They’re bits of goth, industrial, disco, and even classical music seep in through their sounds.
