These days no city is complete without its destination hotel hotspots. And it can be said any luxury hotel is only partial unless an exclusive bar/lounge, designed for guests and locals to mingle over cocktails, is a part of the package.
San Diego, with its ever growing population and demand for opulence, has been renovating the downtown area one high-end hotel at a time. The W, known for its prestige and extravagant design, is one of many, paving the way to transform San Diego from suburb to city.
Beach, the rooftop bar at the W Hotel, has found a way to preserve what everyone loves about San Diego. From the heated sand floor to the fire pits and private cabanas, all intermixed with the sparkling sights of Downtown, The W has created the possibility for Gaslamp and beach lovers to have their cake and eat it too.
Though the drink prices conform to downtown standards, one would definitely be missing the entire experience without once trying the Citron my Face or A Day at the Beach while shimmying to the tunes of DJ Frankie on Fridays or DJ Chino on Saturdays. The sounds are just as pleasing to the ear as the crowd is pleasing to the eye, but the weekends tend to attract a little too much attention. Beach is almost always full to capacity on weekend nights which equals a long line and lots of feet crushing; that is, if you even make it inside. But if the sand in your shoe is getting the best of you, you can always hit up The Living Room downstairs.
