Early in the 1991 film Wayne's World, Wayne and Garth sit on their car hood and discuss life while waiting for a 747 to fly over head and blow their ears off.
Early in the third act of the film they return to the same spot and argue with each other in a way that friends do when they are clearly growing apart. This happens to friends all the time for two reasons (A) because sometimes your public access show gets picked up by a network and (B) because we all have options...
Little Italy is a great place for shopping, dining, and drinking - but more than any other nightlife spot in San Diego, Little Italy also falls in line with the flight path of Lindbergh Field Airport. In honor of our great ancestors - Wayne and Garth - here are two Little Italy bars that provide very different options for where you might want to be when the planes pass overhead.
Waterfront Bar and Grill
The Waterfront is the oldest bar in San Diego. Apparently when Wyatt Earp retired, he moved to San Diego, and drank here. Now days, it is an after hours joint with a near perfect appetizer menu, pool tables, and a reasonably priced photo booth. These amenities carry on a fun filled night if you have just carpooled from the office and sung Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody at the top of your lungs with your co-workers.
Airport Lounge
First things first: The Airport Lounge always has a cover. Airport Lounge flaunts a hot staff of retro flight attendants, enhancing the lounge's fuselage-like structure. This is the type of place that Rob Lowe would take Tia Carrare if Tia Carrare was your girlfriend. I've always felt the need to give Tia Carrare the benefit of the doubt (her taunt is in fact crucial), but at a lounge that offers the latest house and electro music, classy bottle service, and a male clientele that takes its lead from Rob Lowe, and his hair, I would be afraid.
Many times, friends may go their separate ways and feel comfortable in different nightlife environments. This divide usually just comes down to the fact that some people want to spend their Friday night in blue jeans, and some people don't. If you get separated from your friends, remember that like in Wayne's World, there are three possible endings to your night: Valentine's, Starlite Lounge, and El Indio.
