Long gone are the days of scoping out the best neighborhood to score the biggest candy bar. Now we have a one-stop win for our Halloween festivities, but instead of sweets, bars and clubs have a wealth of other treats to help us embrace the holiday. Welcome back to the time of year when monsters and witches are matched by barely-clothed guys and gals; the 11th Annual Dos Equis XX Monster Bash returns, howling through our downtown quarters on Saturday, October 29th.
San Diego’s biggest Halloween block party is calling the bizarre, peculiar, scantily clad, comedic and creative to the spirited streets, from 6pm to midnight. If you remember, or barely remember past years, our usual downtown safe-haven floods with the whacky ghosts and ghouls coming from all corners of San Diego. The Gates of Hell Entrance welcomes the brave at 6th Avenue between Market and J Street and on to party on Island Avenue between 6th and 8th Avenues, and 7th Avenue between Market and J Street.
Three sinfully themed Mega-Clubs are tantalizing us this year, with new levels of debauchery and scandal in a Halloween hotbed. Down 6th Avenue, take heed as the screams of Prom Queens running throughout hallways compose the Dead Prom Club. Prom Queens will dance in terror to the beats of hottest local DJs including Kurch, G*Roy & Schoeny, Who & Paulo De Rosa and DJ Shift straight out of Vegas. This is not your ordinary prom night, as center stage takes a scene straight from Carrie with blood splattered beauties fighting for the crown in slashed up dresses.
Moving into the next realm, the Dos Equis Fright Club takes on a spookier spin for the night. This club scene will be filled with swarms of sexy monsters, celebrating the only appropriate way possible: dancing to the tracks of the latest DJs including Chris Cutz, Dave Nada, Hyper Crush and G*Roy & Emcee Tenacious Tricia. More than just a dance party, the Dos Equis Fright Club will also be crowning the winner of Monster Bash’s internationally famed Costume Contest, winning a Grand Prize of $3,000 cash.
The third and final club in the mix this year, the Blood Club, will revel in the rapturous rave scene loved by many. Be expectant of fangs protruding from the mouths of lustful vampires in these quarters and DJs who only induce the inner darkness to come out. The line-up will get anyone’s blood pumping with sets from Kevin Brown, Fresh One, Tine T. and headliner DJ Vice.
Each Monster Bash 2011 wristband ensures a ticket for food and drink specials as well as free entrance into participating Gaslamp and East Village hot spots. General admission is $30 in advance and $35 at the door. For an extra $25, event goers can upgrade their experience by purchasing a Club VIP package including the infamous Zombie Crawl.
