New in San Diego Nightlife: Sway to Siren and Side Bar

Published : 4/13/2009 by Michelle Guerin

As we approach summer, many bars and clubs are opening up, closing down and changing their image with a new name and vibe.

From the making of Syrah to the revamped Side Bar and the new-again Float Lounge, Kama and Sirén, LOUNGEsix, and SWAY, discover what’s new in San Diego nightlife.

New: From the chill minds of Firehouse American Eatery and Lounge in Pacific Beach comes a brand new wine bar dubbed Syrah Wine Parlor. Locals like their San Diego wine bars, but they’re going to love the new Syrah vibe – summer ’09.

On March 27th, the Sé Hotel presented the glamorous new Kama and Sirén Lounge. Located on the rooftop overlooking the Gaslamp cityscape, this posh nightlife-duo will surely attract the upper crust nightlife elite looking for all the rooftop perks without the lines and fuss. Check out Grand Opening photos here.

On April 3rd and 4th, the Hard Rock Hotel introduced San Diego to two hot new venues: Float Lounge and 207 Lobby Bar. Rocking the same aesthetic appeal laced with upgraded customer service and a new vision to bring Hard Rock back to the music, these new venues are already the talk of the town. Check out Grand Opening Weekend video here, and photos here.

On April 10th, the Keating Hotel hosted a Grand Opening event for the new subterranean lounge: SWAY. Doug Reinhardt of MTV’s “The Hills” partied alongside a hot San Diego crowd, a sweet preview for the celebrity-studded summer to come at the new SWAY Lounge. Check out Grand Opening photos here.

On April 16th Hotel Solamar is introducing San Diego to a new rooftop: LOUNGEsix. One the biggest and most comfortable rooftop lounges in San Diego belongs to Hotel Solamar. Yet for some reason the poolside space at Solamar seems to be continually left in the shadows … until now. Don’t expect a new design and don’t hold your breath for edgy nightlife promotions. Read more here.

May 2009 marks the grand opening month for the new-again Side Bar. For five years local nightlife enthusiasts have trusted Side Bar as the go-to night spot for VIP service and luxury entertainment. After almost a whole year of renovation, we locals can’t wait for the all new Side Bar scene to open up for summer. Read more here. Side Bar hosts a weekend-long invite-only grand opening celebration May 15 -16.

May 2009 also marks the grand opening month for the new summer season at KIN Lounge. You remember KIN ... Manchester Grand Hyatt’s rooftop bar that made a huge splash in the nightlife scene last year, and is sure to bring an even hotter series of special events this year. Rumor has it Fortune 421 will be throwing some crazy pool parties. KIN hosts an invite-only grand opening party on May 15, following a weekend of VIP preview parties - check out photos here.
