Calling all beer connoisseurs! After swirling up the hopes of many for the last two years, the legendary Toronado bar has swept down from its original San Franciscan location to grace San Diego with a little city flavor.
For those of you who know and love the Toronado in its first habitat, the new San Diego Toronado in North Park will not disappoint. Through the creation of an inviting image, by smugly camouflaging its sophisticated air with those dive-bar elements (friendly, but knowledgeable bartenders, neighborhood locals, and old guys, young girls and pretty much everyone else who loves beer just as much as the next person), minus, of course, the "dive" décor, the Toronado has stayed true to its image.
For those who don't know about the Toronado, be warned: Toronado is not for the faint of heart and only serious beer drinkers, those who consider the substance as more than just "sport," may apply. With 50 beers on tap, and that doesn't even include the selection of bottles, and no, I'm not talking about your average "teener," (some of these babies range up to 3 liters), this is truly a beer worshipers' ideal, and very satiable heaven.
The San Diego Toronado is to the beer obsessive as the 3rd Corner in Ocean Beach is to the wine snob. Each beer contains a flavor, a feeling and a history and someone on the Tornado staff will most likely feel it necessary to demonstrate their capacity of beer wisdom, provoked or not.
So if you haven't gotten the jist yet, just think of the new Toronado in San Diego as a place to enjoy the tastes of Oktoberfest, without the bitterness of that expensive plane ticket to Munich.
Insider Tip: The North Park Toronado hasn't forgotten the signature "sausage." If you don't know what I mean, just try it, trust me, you'll like it.
