Party Up With Private Karaoke Bars in SD

Posted On : 11/18/2010 by Colin McNamara

Sometimes a regular birthday dinner and bottle service with friends just doesn’t cut the cake. Sometimes a birthday cake doesn’t cut the cake. We love poppin’ bottles like the next nightlife-loving bunch. But sometimes, we want some good, ol’ fashioned fun, sans the douchebaggery. And one of our favorite fun ways to celebrate is with a quirky karaoke session. Everyone has a good time when singing at karaoke bars as there is such a wide variety of music for everyone to choose from, not to mention having a drink (or five) of liquid courage to get on stage. Karaoke bars have the ability to host your private party as well, to lessen the blow in front of strangers.

First off, not all karaoke businesses in San Diego offer private rooms for party options. But, a karaoke place like the Muzen in Clairemont off Convoy Road or Analog Bar in the Gaslamp Quarter both offer two different types of karaoke partying for your entertainment pleasure.

Muzen, is a more private affair for the more shy and reserved karaoke lovers, where one can call in ahead of time, rent a private room and come down with friends or family to have an intimately fun time. There is a full bar at this Korean-based venue so feel free to have a few drinks before and during, the fun. Each room comes with a booth and table, and several songbooks full of hits both in Korean and English, so there are no language barriers. There is a huge flatscreen TV on the wall and the machine is right beneath it, offering two microphones to recreate those dueling sing-offs you see in the movies.

The size of the room depends on the party accommodation; some are smaller than others. However, a decent sized party of about eight or more should fit fine. The song choices range from rap to heavy metal so there is plenty to choose from. For more information and reservations, call 858.268.7777

Analog Bar, on the other hand, is more of a dance bar in the middle of downtown San Diego, but offers a karaoke section that is actually spun by a DJ so you can really feel like Britney Spears. Happy hour is the most popular time on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday when all the select items are half off. However, it is the musical appeal that makes this place so fun.

This is a more open karaoke bar meant for the big groups where everyone is in the action. The venue is split into two areas. One side involves the drinking and eating, while surrounded by different vinyl records, and the other side hosts the DJs who spin and mix tracks to perfection for those who want to shake some ass on the dance floor. There’s also the option of having large group events through using the karaoke or game systems like Rock Band. The DJs are usually available Fridays and Saturdays, but there are also karaoke competitions where some can bring in a reward of $200.

Analog is the ideal place for the social butterflies and actual would-be singers who aren’t afraid of singing in front of strangers. Party arrangements are usually made ahead of time, but Analog is also a great place just to drop in during a night out. For more information and reservations, visit Analogbar.com.
