Oh the days of being underage in San Diego - what a woe, what a woe.
For those currently living the sub-21 life, the lack of a good, or even decent, fake ID translates to slumming through frat parties, destroying other people's houses and trolling the streets of TJ (yikes), perhaps via the SDSU Tijuana party bus (that being so disastrous I doubt they do that anymore).
In the midst of these activities you're exploring different types of concoctions you later regret, like pucker, schnapps, and Southern Comfort, bravely combining these mixtures like a poisonous science project, likely to create blackouts, memory and clothing loss, and unspeakable hangovers.
Yet the 18 and up scene does not have to be limited to the confines of the previously described. Static Lounge and Café has provided a trendy little haven for the 18 and up, and while you cannot drink if you are underage, you can certainly indulge in all the joys of the club experience.
Just because Static allows the 18 and up by no means excludes the rest of us in the "of age" category. Although they only have a beer and wine license, Static has still managed to get creative with martinis and other specialty drinks, made with liquors that contain lower alcohol percentages. Static, like any good San Diego club, also offers a long list of bands, DJs, parties, and themed nights, like MayStar's Pop Noir, every fourth Friday of the month.
Fashion Whore legend, MayStar, electrifies Static on Pop Noir nights with outrageously vibrant fashion shows and other little tidbits of entertainment with DJs like Ground Floor, to Rodney and MemoRex from the band Buddy Akai, among others who spin an array of music that will satisfy any generation's soul.
On the runway, patrons can expect explosive hair, exotic make-up, and pieces inspired from vintage to Euro, from neon to mutes. The fashion show is not the only element that makes up a Pop Noir even,t as the crowd is crucial. MayStar, the innovative and restless creature that she is, is constantly changing it up by creating new themes where people can feel free to dress up and really get in touch with their inner, or in this case, outer, fashion whore.
Insider's Tip: If fashion is not your thing, Static offers a variety of events every weekend varying from hip-hop to pop music.
