San Diego Music: Finally Someone Let Me Out of My Cage

In case you haven’t a clue who I am (and no, I’m not so vain as to assume you do, or should), I’ve been working with the fine folks at DiscoverSD.com in some capacity for almost three years now.

For the past one-third of my stint with the company, I produced a monthly music blog covering everything in the San Diego music scene from A to Z. Needless to say, it was a rather daunting task, so it seemed only logical to narrow the focus, and make said blogs more beneficial to both writer and reader alike. And really, I’m a big fan of win-win scenarios…

And thus emerged the bi-monthly piece you’re currently perusing; in which I will be showcasing upcoming shows, local music, current and upcoming album releases, and essentially, anything and everything I feel may be of interest to the San Diego show-going and music-consuming masses.

Of course, the focus will lean heavily towards the rock genre (punk rock, more specifically), as that’s been the foundation of my written, musical and photographic career since as far back as I can remember. However, I will make a concerted effort to not neglect the hipsters, alt rockers, hip hop kids and anyone and everyone else occupying a musical niche in our city.

That said, this blog is as much yours as it is mine. Feel free to direct any and all constructive criticisms, comments or suggestions to the comment box below; or e-mail me personally at brad.schweit@gmail.com. I want this to be as informational and entertaining as possible, and you are indeed an integral component to said endeavor.

So to wrap up this introductory blog on a musical note (no pun intended), I leave you with a couple of shows to check out this week: the first of which is Sonic Youth with Sic Alps (courtesy of the Casbah and FM 94.9) at the House of Blues on Thursday, Jan. 7; and the second is Ill Repute at the Brick by Brick on Saturday, Jan. 9. San Diego rarely draws hardcore bands, let alone such timeless, influential groups as Ill Repute, so this one is a no-brainer for any and all hardcore fans, both old school and new.

They’ll be more musical coverage in my next blog, I assure you; however, I wanted to get the compulsory introductions out of the way before moving onto getting drunk and making bad decisions together. You understand, right?
