Hankering for a bit of John Wayne and Clint Eastwood nostalgia? Been dying to throw on those vintage cowboy boots or Stetson hat?
Well, the new San Diego Cowboy Star Restaurant and Butcher Shop in East Village is about as far from the beach and as close to the ranch as anyone could ever possibly hope for. But, you won't find any sawdust on the floor or any crazy gimmicks (like the “72oz steak” eating contest of the Big Texan Steakhouse in Amarillo).
Cowboy Star is like a time warp into an upscale version of the Old West, remodeled and made over to suit our modern, aesthetic East Village needs. Yet, the bar still beckons with a welcoming “home on the range” feel that makes one at ease, slipping into large comfy booths under the wan low-lights of the lovely Cowboy Star. This inviting lounge is notably the perfect setting where one can cozy up to a first date, or a longtime love.
Saddle up to a crackling fire with an Irish Coffee or get started on an Orange Blossom Special, made with Maker's Mark, Velvet Falernum, ginger syrup, tangerine juice and hint of orange blossom. Add to that a bighearted happy hour guaranteed to numb any after-work blues and some killer signature cocktails, and you might have a hard time finding your way back home. And did I mention this place has some of the best steaks this side of the Mississippi? Just don't expect anyone to ask ya'all to come back soon now, ya hear? C'mon, this is still the San Diego East Village.
Insider Tip: If you're looking for hearty appetizers and a frosty mug to wash em' down, forget that hitch in yer giddy up and mozy on down to Cowboy Star - also great for that Sunday hangover!
