The Kneehighs are a fun band. They're white, they rap, and they sing about the San Diego we've all come to love. One could argue that lyrically, the Kneehighs are the most overtly San Diegan act in town. Being locals with a flair for throwing a good dance party, the Kneehighs have one goal in mind: to put on a fun show that celebrates the positive sides of their surroundings.
It's always interesting to see performers raise the stakes of what their show usually means. When a group of San Diego musicians attains a particular identity, it's fascinating to catch them on a night when that dynamic has a bigger meaning.
The Kneehighs - this year's winners of The San Diego Music Award for best Hip Hop Album - has put together a benefit show for group member David Drury's sister Dana. She has recently been diagnosed with epilepsy, and the medical bills have been overwhelming. The Kneehighs have played at Downtown San Diego club The Casbah many times, but this time will be different. This time, the most unrepentantly San Diegan band of musical poets has asked for our help.
November 2, 2007 at 9pm at The Casbah with MC Flow and DJ Gar Gar featuring members of Bad Credit. Suggested donation of $10.00.
