For a bar that’s smack-dab in the middle of Garnet Avenue, boasts
such incredible happy hour specials, and draws a constant crowd, Pacific
Beach’s Tavern
at the Beach is, well, surprisingly normal. In a good way.
The Tavern at the Beach is a plain and simple beach bar. The
dimly lit interior, decorated in dark wood, consists of two full-service bars,
two outdoor patios, TVs, pool tables, and all the other accoutrements that
folks like to enjoy when they’re not at the beach. If sports games aren’t being
aired on the bar’s 40-plus televisions, you can be sure to catch surf videos or
movies. Furthermore, the Tavern at the Beach has one of the best—and longest
running—happy hours in all of PB, which includes the frequent and famous
offering of a shot + a beer or a shot + a cocktail for a mere five dollars. Head
in with twenty bucks (plus tip) and you’ll be good for the night!
Although the bar does not serve food, it does offer free
pizza from 5 to 7 p.m. every Friday night. It also offers an unusually
inexpensive selection of cute self-styled t-shirts, sweatshirts, and even
underwear—all of which can be purchased at a lower price if accompanied by
alcohol. How’s that for service?
