Considered
a class-A dive, the Silver Fox Lounge in Pacific
Beach lacks the unsavory clientele and back alley entrances that
characterize true dive bars.
What the Fox does have are good, cheap drinks, a bundle of TV’s, pool tables,
video games, an electronic dartboard, and a pinball machine. What the bar lacks
in ambiance, it makes up for in entertainment.
Prefer to
park yourself at the bar? Then sit back and enjoy the beer of the month, which
is available everyday for $2, and watch while fellow Fox fans saunter over the
wall-to-wall leopard carpeting and stuff the jukebox with quarters.
The Silver
Fox is a favorite among PB locals, who wish to forgo hip-checking college kids
farther west on Garnet, but it’s not far enough out of the way to be totally
hip either—and that’s just fine. There’s always some crazy deal involving time
lines and cheap drinks at the Fox. Happy hour, for example, happens everyday
from 6 – 10 a.m. and 4 – 7 p.m. You’d be hard pressed to find the bar empty on
any given holiday—from Valentine’s to football season, the Fox is always
offering something special, whether it’s veteran’s day cocktails or free pizza.
Look for the gleaming silver fox that guards the door and you’ll know you’ve
arrived.
