San Diego’s Top Ten Dance Clubs

Published : 8/17/2006 by admin admin

Face it—nothing tops dancing, especially atop a sleek dance floor, in a fabulous environment, among good-looking people who know their moves. Here are San Diego’s best dance clubs, places you’ll be sure to meet your beat.

Stingaree, Gaslamp

Shake it in style at Downtown’s biggest nightclub, featuring three levels of nocturnal madness.

Urban Mo's, Hillcrest

Get your kicks at this updates country-western dance club, formerly Hamburger Mary's. If you’ve got two left feet, don’t sweat it—free dance lessons are offered at the beginning of every night.

Belo, Gaslamp

Spins different dance music in three psychedelic rooms, beautified by hot go-go dancers and celebrity DJs on special nights.

Typhoon Saloon, Pacific Beach

Boisterous boardwalk-themed bar and dance club that often showcases live music acts to get the party started.

Bar Dynamite, Mission Hills

Dance to music you’ll never hear anywhere else, from reggae to rock to vintage funk, with a good-humored youngish crowd.

Deco’s, Gaslamp

Feel the grooves under a unique open-air dance-floor.

Club Tremors at Pacific Beach Bar & Grill

The wildest dance scene is in Pacific Beach, with earth-rumbling beats, golden-tanned beauties, and jaw-dropping drink specials on certain nights.

Rich’s, Hillcrest

A gay dance club to top all others, with all the bells, whistles, and go-go boys a mover and shaker would ever desire.

Café Sevilla, Gaslamp

San Diego’s top spot to add some flavor to your salsa. Spanish-themed restaurant upstairs serves great flamenco fare for spicing up those dance steps.

On Broadway, Gaslamp

San Diego’s favorite dance club for years. Get your groove on in elegant surroundings, under colored lights and a vaulted ceiling that seems almost endless.

Bar Dynamite

I like the variety of dance-bars you picked, unfortunately I haven't been to all of them. Just wanted to say good job on listing Bar Dynamite- it's such a cool place, really intimate, great music, nice people (generally). One of my favorite places to go dancing and I like that it's not right on 5th Ave!

Belo and Typhoon are absolutely not in San Diego's top ten unless of course, you like crappy music. Cafe Sevilla is cool but more for sangria and tapas than as a dance club. Stingaree and Bar Dynamite are really the only clubs on this list worthy of a top ten nomination. The best time to go to Stingaree is on Sundays from 1-7PM when there is no cover, awesome house music and sometimes gourmet samplings from the chef's kitchen. My Top Ten: 1. Altitude Skybar anyday 2. Air Conditioned anyday 3. Thin and Onyx on the weekend 4. Thrusters anyday 5. Belly Up anyday 6. Sidebar on a thursday 7. Stingaree on a sunday 8. Urban Kitchen on a friday 9. Henry's on a wednesday 10. Crudo on a thursday

Dana knows where it's at

Dana.. call me. jk.. but seriously. I want to check out your top 10, sounds like you know where the hot spots are at. I agree Typhoon and Club Tremors aren't quite top 10 worthy.. but they the only options in PB. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. What is Urban Kitchen ... sounds fun-

Typhoon is okay...

Dana, what are you talking about!? Typhoon doesn't play crappy music! But, hey, where's Belly Up? It must be worth checking out if you go there, right? j/k
