Top Ten Rooftop Lounges in San Diego

Published : 4/13/2009 by Michelle Guerin

Locals frequent San Diego hotels for a slew of reasons aside from relaxing pillow talk.

Boutique hotels in San Diego provide much more than posh accommodations; including spa indulgence, fine dining and, most importantly, rooftop nightlife. For an elevated party-going experience in San Diego, ride the elevator up to these luxury rooftop lounges.

Discover the top ten rooftop lounges at San Diego hotels.

Ivy Rooftop - Ivy Hotel
The Rooftop at Ivy is a spacious poolside lounge sizzling with a modern take on tropical resort intrigue. By night, a strict guest list regulates the star-lit crowd to ensure the right size and mix, while guest DJs entertain those lounging about cabana booths. The Ivy Rooftop is so much more than just the pool area, but every Sunday all eyes are on the pool during the Ivy Sunday Pool Party – starting May 24, 2009 – our recommended spot for those seeking an elegant take on daytime fun. Sirén Lounge - Sé Hotel
A rooftop oasis overlooking the Gaslamp cityscape, the brand new Kama and Sirén Lounge at the Sé Hotel offer elite hotel guests and in-the-know locals a taste of the good life without the rowdy crowds. Hide away in VIP cabanas and enjoy a sophisticated night on the town. (pictured left)

Float Lounge - Hard Rock Hotel
The Hard Rock Hotel introduced San Diego to two new nightlife venues in ’09, including Float Lounge. This rooftop destination is a poolside paradise that takes its parties seriously. At night, guests enjoy bottle service around the fire pit VIP lounges. But every Sunday, marathon party-goers are never late to Intervention - the official Sunday pool party at the Hard Rock Hotel - starting April 19, 2009. View new Intervention launch party photos.

LOUNGEsix - Hotel Solamar
This spring Hotel Solamar is introducing San Diego to a new rooftop: LOUNGEsix. Don’t expect a new design and don’t hold your breath for the launch of nightlife promotions. The launch doesn’t bring an aesthetic transformation, but the new LOUNGEsix name does represent a change at the Hotel Solamar – particularly a new atmosphere on the Solamar Terrace. Check out new Grand Opening party photos.

Tower Bar - Tower 23
The second level Tower Deck at Tower 23 is reserved for hotel guests, making this outdoor lounge one of the most exclusive spots in all of Pacific Beach. As you soak in the spectacular sunset view, lounge in cabanas set near the splash pool and enjoy cocktail service from JRDN restaurant and bar downstairs. (pictured below)

ALTITUDE Sky Lounge - Gaslamp Marriott
Boasting views of PETCO Park and the San Diego skyline, ALTITUDE Lounge is an upscale favorite for a diverse crowd. Snuggle up by the fire pits, opt for VIP bottle service by the dance floor, or sneak away and sip down a cocktail with your special someone as the Padres score a home run down below.

Beach Bar - W Hotel
The W introduces the revamped WET pool and the connecting second floor Veranda Bar. WET was reintroduced as an alluring oasis for travelers with a mirror wall, a graphic wooden deck, whimsical botanicals, and a dramatic hyper photo of a wave appearing to crest. WET guests are encouraged to recline on chaise lounges by the pool, soaking in the sun, while enjoying Veranda treats.

KIN Lounge - Manchester Grand Hyatt
Ready for a second successful season, KIN Lounge returns to San Diego nightlife this summer. Home to one of the best views in all of downtown San Diego, KIN Lounge offers pool-side entertainment, VIP amenities, and top DJs in a spacious aquamarine setting. (pictured left)

Odysea - Hilton San Diego Bayfront
Embark on a liquid adventure at this downtown waterfront destination featuring modern twists of new American Dim Sum and hand-crafted organic cocktails. Odysea’s perch beside the water – including outdoor terrace – is a main gathering place for hotel visitors. Key features include table-side cart service, providing instantaneous flavor gratifications, a comprehensive absinthe program and distinctive drink flights.

The Glass Door - Porto Vista Hotel and Suites
The venue name is truly representative of this Little Italy restaurant and lounge. Located four floors up at the unassuming Porto Vista Hotel, The Glass Door offers a one of a kind view of the San Diego harbor. Whether enjoying wine flights and New American cuisine within the glass doors or on the spacious outdoor deck, diners are bound to feel comfortable at this elegant establishment.

Though not perched on rooftop pedestals, many more San Diego hotels offer great pools and nightlife lounges. From The Pearl to the Sheraton Harbor Island and La Costa Resort and Spa, discover the top ten hotel pools. Find more nightlife tips and trends.
