Thousands of residents and visitors line the street of El Cajon each year on the Sunday before Thanksgiving to enjoy the annual Mother Goose Parade. This year the organization celebrated their 61st production on Sunday November 18, 2007.
With a long list of celebrities in attendance, including Dancing with the Stars' Mario Lopez, Superman's Dean Cain, American Idol's Katharine McPhee, recording artist Jesse McCartney, as well as several other noteworthy appearances. Grand Marshal of the parade was Corbin Bleu from High School Musical and serving as Honorary Grand Marshal was CHiPs very own Erik Estrada.
The Mother Goose Parade is dedicated to being “a celebration of children," with over 100 motorized floats gracing the streets of the parade route annually. It is the largest parade of its type on the west coast and beckons spectators and guests from all over the country. The parades success is rooted in its value of community and family. Onlookers are able to enjoy viewing the parade every year free of charge. VIP tickets are available for Grandstand seating and include a pre-show to kick off the festivities.
The non-profit Mother Goose Organization was formed in 1950 after the three successful previous years. Originally, the parade was designed to be a Christmas gift to the children of the community and has since become one of the largest scale events in the county during the holiday season. The entire parade is run off sponsors and volunteers alike. Complete with a very competitive float contest, top equestrian presentations, musical performers, and a variety of others acts, it's no wonder both the main event and the organization behind it are so highly respected.
The parade will air on local television both December 15th and 25th.
