Classic: Old House Fair in South Park

Posted On : 5/25/2011 by Bailey Mobley

Take an educational stroll through South Park on June 18 during the 13th annual Old House Fair. This unique community event will reveal what’s great behind the real estate of this extraordinary and timeless San Diego neighborhood.

From the Historic Homes Tour to the guided excursions of South Park’s finest restaurants and shops, enjoy what makes this quaint district quaint one-of-a-kind.

Sponsored in part by Station Tavern & Burgers, admission to this day fair is free and takes place Saturday from 10am to 4pm.  Fairgoers can tour exhibits and open businesses, enjoy live entertainment playing at the Whistle Stop stage, and indulge in delicious festival eats.  Plenty of fun for the family, children can get crafty at the creative kid’s corner as well as explore the “Green Machine”, a hands-on learning mobile equip with a soil research station and earth-friendly excitement. Looking to spruce up your San Diego home? Festival vendors will feature local craftsmen, contractors, and do-it-yourselfers, offering insider tips and demonstrations on how to transform and renovate interiors, gardens and your family’s lifestyle.

The fifth house on the 2011 Historic Homes Tour is in Burlingame, the residential enclave between Switzer Canyon and Juniper St., just east of 30th Street. Known for its rose-colored sidewalks, Burlingame will celebrate its centennial in 2012, making its stop on this year’s Old House Fair tour a “preview visit” for many. In addition to the docent-led tours of each Historic Home, the Old House Fair offers a guided 1 hour Trolley Tour through the neighborhoods, two guided walking tours by Urban Safaris and a free booklet with a map and home descriptions for a self-guided South Park tour via walking, biking or driving.

For more information on the Old House Fair, event sponsors, demonstrations and vendors, visit their website. Tickets for the Historic Home Tour are available online and can be purchased for $20.
