Ballast Point's Calico Amber Ale continued its victory lap around Europe last weekend, taking another medal -- this one a gold in the 2012 European Beer Star competition in Munich.
Earlier in the month, the same beer won a bronze medal at the inaugural Brussels Beer Challenge.
Ballast Point was among the 21 U.S. breweries to win an award in the Munich competition, now its ninth year. The contest honors beers brewed in traditional European styles, and Calico was honored in the "English-style bitter" category.
A panel of 102 experts took two days to judge 1,366 entries from 45 nations.
American beers, until recently derided in Europe as bland and watery, took 35 awards in 22 different categories. While Calico was the only San Diego beer in the winners circle, Paso Robles' Firestone Walker won the "Consumers' Favourite" award with its Double Jack double IPA.
A complete list of winners can be found here.
