Posted On : 8/24/2010 by Ryan Eisenacher

In the tradition of El Pescador in La Jolla and Blue Water Seafood in Mission Hills, Bo's Seafood Market and Grill has finally brought the meaning of quality fresh fish has finally to Hillcrest.

Boasting a homey ambiance, a friendly staff and an incredibly tasty seafood menu, you’re guaranteed to get all that you paid for and more at this quaint neighborhood eatery. Whether you’re buying fish out of the case or coming in to grab a sandwich, salad or plate, you’ll immediately realize that everything on the menu is nothing short of exceptional.

Curb your appetite with Bo’s menu selection boasting fresh seafood dishes. The menu offers savory starters including Oysters and Clams on the half shell, Fresh Fish Ceviche, Shrimp Ceviche, Fried Calamari and Beer Battered Jumbo Shrimp.

Entrees include a selection of crunchy, fried heaven options such as Beer Battered Fish & Chips, Beer Battered Shrimp & Chips and House Specialty Halibut and Chips. The Baja Fish Tacos can be served up grilled or deep fried with avocado, tomato, cabbage and spicy chipotle sauce alongside a side of rice and beans. Bo’s also has a variety of sourdough sandwiches including Homemade Tuna Salad, Bay Shrimp, Crab, Bay Shrimp & Crab, Large Shrimp & Crab, and even a California Chicken Sandwich with lettuce, avocado, tomato, jack cheese and ranch for those who are looking for fare of the land.

For lighter fare, check out the selection of house salads all made with mixed greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, fresh croutons and your choice of homemade tuna salad, grilled chicken breast or fresh ceviche; Louies made with mixed greens, avocado, cucumber, hard boiled egg, croutons, 1000 island dressing and you choice of shrimp, crab or a shrimp & crab combo; or a full or half order of the House Grilled Fish Salad with your choice of fish, mushrooms, feta cheese, tomatoes, cucumber, fresh croutons and house dressing.

Because Bo’s believes that San Diego is the micro brew capital of the nation, diners can expect six continually changing local brews on tap.  Choose from Green Flash's Hop Head Red and Cali Belgique; Ballast Point's Sculpin IPA, Yellowtail Pale Ale, Calico Amber Ale, and Big Eye IPA; Lightning Brewery's Thunderweizen and Elemental Pilsner; Lost Abbey's Devotion, Inferno, and Lost & Found Abbey Ale; as well as a selection of bottled beers from California and Mexico.

Oh, and did we forget to mention that Bo’s serves up a seriously scrumptious bowl of clam chowder? We’re not talking tiny tidbits of white clam meat you might find floating around in a condensed Campbell’s soup can either; this chowder is quite literally gives New England a run for its money.

Bo’s Seafood Market & Grill is located at 1040 University Avenue in Hillcrest and is open Sunday through Thursday from 11am-8pm and Friday and Saturday from 11am-9pm.
