Sophistication and high class Corvette
Diner isn’t—but who cares? Corvette is the fun, Disney version of 1950’s
diners. At this Hillcrest
classic, it’s not uncommon for the waitress to act like she’s known you a
million years, as she throws more straws than you can count at your table and
sits down next to you while she takes your order.
While other 50’s diners concentrate on beehive hairdo’s and
serve a limp grilled cheese, or concentrate on the food and go without the fun,
Corvette Diner hits both targets. Because the Cohn family (of Mister
Tiki, Indigo
Grill, and Island Prime
fame) owns Corvette Diner, you know your dinner will be amazing. And because of
the live DJ and seemingly spontaneous dances by the wait staff, you know you’ll
enjoy every minute spent in this time warp.
Even the menu items at Corvette Diner are reminiscent of the
fifties, from the hula-hoop sized onion rings to the Ike & Tina tuna melt. Finish
off your meal with a big chocolate coke or choco-peppermint smoothie. When you’re
done, make funny faces in the old-school photo booth in the restaurant’s lobby
and scoop up a couple handfuls of Bazooka Joe bubblegum on your way out—back to
the comparably boring twenty-first century.
Insider’s Tip: Don’t be scared of the famous Rory burger –
served with bacon, mayo, and peanut butter. You’re guaranteed to like it, or
your money back.
