Discover Dining: Top Ten New San Diego Restaurants

Published : 8/19/2008 by Christiana Gauger

From La Jolla to East Village and the sparkling Marina District, every iconic and evolving neighborhood in San Diego is growing with innovative new eateries.

While we will never turn our backs to classic San Diego restaurants such as Mister A's in Banker's Hill and The Prado at Balboa Park, we can't help but let our curiosity for new cuisine lead us on culinary adventures across the county. Discover the top ten San Diego restaurants new to the dining scene in 2008, so far.

Jai by Wolfgang Puck
Internationally renowned chef Wolfgang Puck celebrates the grand opening of his newest San Diego restaurant, Jai by Wolfgang Puck this August, located in the La Jolla Playhouse theater district.

Cowboy Star
Travel to the East Village for a meaty, upscale taste of the Old West at Cowboy Star Restaurant and Butcher Shop.

Red Marlin
Stick to edge of Mission Bay for stunning views and savory seafood at Red Marlin, located on the water's edge at the revamped Hyatt Regency Mission Bay.

Dish at Universal
Hillcrest keeps it fresh with the ultra-stylish lime green snake skin and gold dipped drift wood at Dish, the upscale eatery across the garden lounge from Universal. (pictured)

Whisknladle
While the most discriminating tastes are satisfied with Whisknladle's eclectic menu in La Jolla. Remember, nothing helps erase drunken gaffes like an open wallet and a generous spirit - tell your manager that dessert is on you.

La Puerta
Although every night should be taco night, Tuesdays at La Puerta are a celebration of tacos and Tecate. A round of tequila, anyone?

Maryjane's Coffee Shop

Maryjane’s Coffee Shop is the epitome of rock ‘n’ roll dining. Check out a vintage classic film streaming across wall-mounted flat screen TVs and order café style American cuisine with modern flair. We recommend visiting Maryjane on the late night.

Roy's Hawaiian Fusion
If you're feeling more surf than turf, Roy's is open for business on the San Diego harbor - e komo mai!

Urban Solace
Be part of the North Park resurgence while enjoying gourmet comfort food at Urban Solace with southern flair.

The Linkery
Or head across the street for some homemade sausages at The Linkery. This open air restaurant doesn't accept tips, and isn't afraid to show you exactly where your food came from. And, Sea Rocket Bistro has moved into The Linkery's old digs, bringing fresh seafood to North Park bungalow dwellers.
