Elect Local Habit's Anniversary Menu

Posted On : 6/5/2012 by Keli Dailey

Throwing all your weight behind a candidate is what today's all about.

I even got mayoral candidate endorsement email from a restaurant.

(I get it. If I like their menu selection, I'll love their choice for San Diego governance! But if I think their Brussels sprouts are too trendy, I'll worry their guy won't rep any new ideas in City Hall.)

The polls are open at Local Habit, Hillcrest's beers-on-tap, handmade small-plates, organic-pizzas tavern that feels like an '80s pizza joint (quirky, small, just missing a Pac-Man cabinet in the corner).

For their first anniversary, they're letting you vote to bring back dishes that have cycled through chef Nick Brune's varying menu. The candidates and online voting booth are linked here.

I'm agitating for the ravioli. Stuffed with a mild, nutty almond "ricotta" and cooked in artichoke hearts, thyme, onions, lemon juice and white wine, this vegan dish was cruelly snatched from the Local Habit menu after I tried it.

Unlike our confusing electoral college setup, the Local Habit election is simple: The dish with the most popular votes gets the podium (menu) for Local Habit's first anniversary weekend, June 29-July 1.

So say it with me, "Depose tyranny! Demand ravioli!" Vote here.
