Only the brave and the big-stomached were cut out for eating competitions. It’s just natural selection. Those who can inhale massive portions at rapid speeds have an obligation to society to be at the forefront of our favorite restaurant’s chow-down competitions.
Hungry people of San Diego, you are officially in luck for a new food-in-your-face race. Get ready, get set, go 4x4 at Lumberyard Tavern & Grill in Encinitas. Brace yourselves: the 4x4 Challenge features four ½ lb. patties, four slices of cheese, four pieces of bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onions and pickles. And that’s not all; the burger is topped with a fried egg, all on a pretzel roll. Hopefully you’ve saved room, because the burger is served with one pound of fries. Take a look at the photo below to see if you're cut out for this monster meal.
With absolutely no modifications and no substitutions tolerated by the Lumberyard staff, the battle for the burger is cut-out for only serious diners. Those taking on the 4x4 should keep in mind that this competition was not meant to stay pretty- competitors will be forced to devour with no utensils and no napkins. If participators clean their plate in 30 minutes or less, they will be crowned one of very few 4x4 champions. Aside from burger bragging rights, winners receive a picture holding the 4x4 trophy with their name on it, a feature in the 4x4 Hall of Fame displayed on the Lumberyard website and Facebook, and a commemorative t-shirt only given to true champions.
In Lumberyard history, of the 100 brave souls who have attempted this challenge, only 16 have been successful in their attemt to eat it all. Check out photos of the past 4x4 champions here! Do you have what it takes? All you need to do is stop in to Lumberyard and request the 4x4. But remember, no modifications. Just a glorious burger with plenty of fries.
