Late Night Feast: Fresh MXN Food

Posted On : 3/16/2011 by Danielle Spears

San Diego is famous for our exceptional quality of authentic Mexican food and everyone knows it. But let’s be honest with ourselves here in admitting that there is only one reason any hard-partying up-all-night class of San Diegans is jumping into their D.D.’s car at 2 in the morning with Carne Asada on their mind: munchies!

Yes, I’m talking about you, my fellow San Diego natives, college students, and young professionals: we’ve all been there, many times before. Mexican food is our go-to staple, dependably available to us at all times of the day and night, conveniently located for us at just about every freeway exit and street corner.

If you are a frequenter of taco stands and late-night drive thru windows, there is no doubt in my mind that you have eaten at least once at our beloved Santana’s, now known as Fresh MXN Food. It’s quite possible that you, like myself, have become a connoisseur of sorts where burritos, quesadillas, and tostadas are concerned. There is nothing wrong with a little late-night Mexi feast, but did you know that MXN offers a diverse menu of perfectly acceptable day-time cuisine as well?

Like the name suggests, the locally adored restaurant has recently become health conscious, while preserving its authentic Mexican flavor. Are you a traditionalist that can’t get enough of the California burrito? Try it at MXN with a whole-wheat tortilla for a healthy twist and at no extra cost! Along with all the usual joys of chimichangas, enchiladas, quesadillas, and taquitos, MXN has expanded on its ridiculously inexpensive Veggie Meals section, adding grilled fish and shrimp burritos, as well as a new Caesar Chicken or Caesar Fish options. Also new to the menu is Make Any Burrito a Soaked Burrito, where you can choose from red or green enchilada smother sauce. Plus, breakfast is served all day – which is saying a lot considering that this savory venue attends to our hunger pangs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

If you have been living under a rock and somehow still need to introduce yourself to MXN, it’s time to acquire a new notch on your belt (no, not like that you dirty devil you). With 13 locations in San Diego alone, including Pacific Beach, Hillcrest, Bay Park, Mira Mesa, Mission Beach, Little Italy, and Point Loma, there’s no reason you should miss out on this local treasure, any time of day or night.
