Meet the New George's in La Jolla

Published : 2/22/2008 by DiscoverSD

George's at the Cove was been a staple of the La Jolla dining scene for over 20 years before the seaside restaurant renovated and reopened as the all-new George's California Modern Restaurant.

While the Executive Chef remains the same, the menu has never been better, offering a re-imagined selection of George's at the Cove favorites along with wholly new selections, celebrating fresh local ingredients and worldwide taste sensations, including such visionary delights as a black olive-cured tuna sashimi from the "raw and cold"section of the menu.

Main courses are just as inspired, such as the main lobster seafood stew served with toasted pasta, marcona almonds, and orange aioli. The diverse dishes may come from all corners of the globe, but they are always universally delicious.

Bottle and martini-shakers at George's have felt the change as well, as the restaurant is now offering a completely new wine list with global selections and cocktails infusing worldwide liquors, elixirs, and mixers. A unique concoction of honey, lemongrasss and kumquat, called a "Bee sting,"is rejuvenating dinner's palates nightly, along with the other delightful drink specials.

The interior of this new-again La Jolla restaurant has been completely revamped to embrace a new modern energy. Soft, light wood relaxes clientele, while the black and steel accents communicate a subtle quality of the upscale. Delicate lighting enhances the glow of the lime green booths, while the uniform dark chairs balance the modern approach to décor.

The new sleek and understated atmosphere allows the spirit of the delightful cuisine to shine. Private tables are available with a reservation, however, bar dining and a "communal dining table"offer guests the chance to dine beside new and interesting people when reservations are unavailable.

One element the old restaurant did leave behind is the excellent ocean view and the vast panoramic windows to breathe it all in. From George's California Modern to George’s Bar and Ocean Terrace - the modern age of this classic venue continues to impress.
