Muy Fancy: El Camino Super Cocina Opens in Little Italy

Posted On : 12/11/2009 by Taylor Doms

El Camino Super-Cocina opens in Little Italy on December 16th with the same flare and sense of fiesta as its flagship restaurant in South Park – if not more so.

Designed by co-owner, Mauricio Couturier, the interior reflects a sense of pop culture fused with Mexico’s vibrancy and tradition; sort of like if the neighborhood church decided to host a rave and a quinceañera on the same night. A reverence for religion and family comes clashing together with an explosion of popping neon colors, lights, and, of course, El Camino automobiles, to bring you a wildly entertaining and eye-catching atmosphere.

Opening Party Alert: El Camino celebrates its launch into Little Italy with a Soft Opening Party on Wednesday, December 16, 7pm - 12am. Click here to RSVP, and we'll see you there!

What its interior offers in aesthetics, its cuisine equally offers in flavor. Fresh, thoughtful, and traditional Mexican dishes bring a comforting sense of familiarity, while unique nuances in the form of sauces, salsas, and organic, local ingredients validate the restaurant as it self-proclaimed super-cocina.

Stand-outs on “El Menu” include the “Sopa De Fideo” – a recipe three generations-old, this vegetarian-delight comes in the form of a rich and fragrant tomato broth, with fideo, garlic, cilantro, and onion that is so immensely flavorful you could only assume grandma was in the back cooking it herself. The “Nachos El Camino” are great for sharing – until you get a taste of that zesty cilantro crema sauce and the fresh black beans underneath. In which case, you may consider ordering your own.

Taking up residence in the former Airport Lounge building, the new Super El Camino will be at least twice the size of its South Park location. There will be an area filled with kitschy entertainment like air hockey and video games, and even an outdoor patio – in case things inside get a bit too spicy.

Get ready to say olé! – The new location will feature a full bar!

We are looking forward to seeing what creative and tequila-tainted libations will be taking us on a one-way trip to the floor – the dance floor that is! With a great stage ready for live band performances, there is no excuse not to get up and shake those sweet potato flautas off. Whether you decide to dine, or just indulge in few sinful sips, waitresses flouncing around in hot pink ruffle-y aprons will bring baskets of deliciously fresh tortilla chips alongside four house-made salsas – perfect for adding extra spice to any dish, or to slow down the creeping effects of that tequila.

Insider Tip: Both locations offer extensive weekend brunch and a great mimosa special – $1 mimosas! Or, go grande with the Mimosa Fiesta: A bottle of Champagne and a jug of o.j. for $12 big ones. More specials include Happy Hour Monday thru Friday 5-7pm and Taco Tuesday with 1/2 off tacos and $3 Coronas.

R.I.P. Airport Lounge – remember the scene in old party pics.
