A little change never hurt anybody, and never hurt any food for that matter. San Diego chefs are embracing change and taking shifts in ditching the kitchen and getting behind the bar to create original and tantalizing drinks at Quality Social. Rather than keeping the chefs locked up with the pots and pans, Quality Social is using their imaginative brainpower to fuel new and exciting drinks every Wednesday night as part of the new Shift Drink series.
So far, the Wednesday night innovation has been just as dynamic as it sounds. Alchemy’s Executive Chef Ricardo Heredia recently stirred up a scene behind the bar. Craig Jimenez of Craft & Commerce was also recently spotted shifting into the bartender role, as well as 2-star Michelin Star Chef Jason McLeod who shook and served some sips.
Coming up next in the Shift Drink series is guest chef Kathrine Humphus, the Executive Chef of BO-beau Kitchen and Bar. Set to shake it up on August 31st, she will use her years of experience in the kitchen to make some specialty drinks at Quality Social. Chef Katherine is a native of San Diego and brings to the bar and the table her culinary education from Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. The classic and intricate French techniques and methods she learned helped her in backing her own catering company, Pardon My French in 2010, specializing in French dessert buffets and chocolate truffles. It didn’t take long before the Cohn’s new French restaurant BO-beau Kitchen and Bar elected Katherine as the Executive Chef. The restaurant touts French-inspired bistro, with Katherine’s youthfulness aiding in keeping the menu both fresh and forward-thinking. Already brainstorming a few ideas for her night, Chef Katherine revealed that her drink will be "BO-beau esque, with some herbs from our restaurant garden. I'm thinking something along the lines of either a vodka or gin base-- pretty enough for the ladies, yet tasty enough for the men!"
Shift Drinks takes place every Wednesday from 10pm to close, with additional specials on PBR tall boys and Pickleback shots. The series best exhibits how cocktails can be far more than a couple splashes of this and that, but entire concoctions of strategic liquid combinations.
