The height of the 2007 San Diego wildfire tragedy is upon us. Over a half million residents have evacuated, and hundreds of firefighters have been on the front line for over three days straight. San Diego restaurants and catering businesses are taking initiative and doing their part to support fire relief for brave firefighters and victims of the San Diego fires. San Diego Restaurant: Oceanaire Seafood Room, Downtown
Brian Malarkey, Mike Mitchell, and the staff of The Oceanaire Seafood Room in San Diego donated both food and manpower to feed 400 people at Mira Mesa High School on October 23, 2007. The Oceanaire Seafood Room pulled together the resources needed with the help of donations from Hamilton Meats. San Diego wildfire evacuees were excited to receive the generous meals, and their spirits were also lifted by the surprise appearance of San Diego's favorite chef, and national fan-favorite, Top Chef 3 Miami finalist, Brian Malarkey.
San Diego Restaurant: Fresh[er] in La Jolla
La Jolla's Fresh[er] will be donating 10% of revenue through the month of October to the San Diego Red Cross, to support their efforts to help San Diego fire victims. San Diego Restaurant: The Palm Restaurant San Diego, Downtown
The Palm's general manager, Carl Essert, contacted Roger Hedgecock at KOGO radio asking how his San Diego restaurant could help the brave firefighters on the fire lines. Executive Chef Miguel Martinez and his staff busily put together sandwiches the morning of October 24, 2007, and dropped them off at Gillespie Field, the base camp for firefighters fighting the Harris Fire.
San Diego Catering: TK&A Custom Catering
October 25, 2007, TK&A Catering will be at Escondido High School to feed nearly 600 San Diego wildfires victims.The San Diego catering company is working with the Red Cross of San Diego to determine locations in need of hot meals. The law firm of Cooley Godward Kronish generously donated the funds from their cancelled event to be used by TK&A to feed fire victims.TK&A plans to feed 2,500 San Diegans throughout October, 2007.
