San Diego Sushi Itto in Hillcrest and Gaslamp

Posted On : 2/22/2008 by DiscoverSD

Originating in Mexico City, the famed San Diego Sushi Itto offers a unique dining experience, combining traditional Japanese fare and sushi innovation with a fusion of American and Mexican flavors.

The specialties within this San Diego sushi restaurant highlight the signature multicultural flairs with a variety of tastes and flavors, often incorporating cream cheese, chives, jalapeño, chipotle, and other western favorites. An excellent, not to mention delicious, example of these Mexican - Japanese fusion would be the arboledas roll, featuring cream cheese, avocado, chives, and smoked salmon with a chipotle sauce.

Despite offering an extensive list of specialty rolls, Sushi Itto encourages guests to create their own rolls. If the creation is popular enough, it may even end up on the menu or at least as a one-night special. Sushi Itto serves the freshest fish, so those who like traditional sashimi will not be disappointed. The miso soup and grilled edamame are favorites of the regulars customers in both Hillcrest and Gaslamp. For those who have a hard time filling up on sushi, know that Itto rolls are always over-sized and delicious. However, it is a local crime to get too stuffed on sushi and miss out on the excellent tempura ice cream.

Specialty rolls are frequently spicy, commonly mouthwatering and always hip, just like the chill atmosphere and modern décor that makes Sushi Itto seem more like a lounge serving sushi than a sushi restaurant. The music, a fusion itself, is excellent, offering delightful remixes of popular songs.

Satisfy your next sushi craving at the Sushi Itto Downtown, or the Sushi Itto in Hillcrest.

no so good

My recent experience with the hillcrest location was not so good. First, its a sushi place, they should have some japanese people working here. Second, the fish was apparently not so good and they tried to cover it up with loads of extra toppings. There was so much food that i couldnt eat it all. Sushi is all about subtlety, their take was overwhelming. Third, i suspect it made me sick. I've got a steel stomach and by the end of the night i felt horrible. There are at least two other sushi places in this neigbhorhood, i should have asked around before stopping at the largest one..
