NFL Pro-Bowler turned celeb-restaurateur Shaun Phillips synced up with sbe to open Katsuya San Diego at the Andaz Hotel back in March of this year. And now, Phillips is getting behind the bar to prove his dedication to the partnership. This week, Phillips introduces his new signature cocktail at Katsuya.
The “SP” 95 is made with hand muddled serrano peppers and mint, Corzo Tequila, peach puree, lime juice and simple syrup. It’s strong, balanced and bold, with a sweet side -- just like Phillips.
When I talked to Phillips during Katsuya’s VIP opening party, he told me that the lychee martini was his favorite on the menu, but he always pours it over a cup of ice. “I just feel like -- a guy with a martini glass? I get it over ice in a regular cup.” I suggested they create a secret manly-man code at the bar, so people can order martinis Phillips-style and avoid embarrassment. “Maybe we’ll work on that, that’s a good idea," he said. “Let me get the Shaun Phillips martini!” Read the full Q&A here.
Try the new “SP” 95 for $7 during ‘Daily Double Social Hour’ from 4 to 7pm and 9pm to close at Katsuya at Andaz San Diego Hotel located at 600 F Street, downtown.
Insider Tip: “SP” 95 stands for Shaun Phillips, #95 linebacker for the San Diego Chargers. The first Chargers home game is on Sunday, September 16 against the Tennessee Titans. Go Bolts!
