Scott Slater had big dreams of owning a restaurant every since graduating from SDSU in 2003. Starting off small, he opened up several hot dog stands throughout Southern California. These were followed by two successful restaurants in Huntington Beach and Anaheim Hills called Slater’s 50/50. Today, the young entrepreneur is opening up his third location at Liberty Station. Dreams really do come true.
The concept behind his unique burger spot is the original 50/50 recipe which calls for half ground beef mixed up with half ground bacon, created by Slater and some of his SDSU fraternity brothers. This unique and tasty concoction earned Slater a spot on the Travel Channel’s Bacon in Paradise. The fun doesn’t stop there: more than one-million different burger combos can be created with the toppings, breads, meats and sauces at this interactive spot.
For those not eager to build their own gourmet burger, several perfected burgers reign on the menu. Slater’s Signatures in San Diego include the The Old Timey, Caprese Burger, Hawaiian Burger, Thanksgiving Burger, The Ball Park and The Flamin’ Hot. If you prefer a sandwich to a burger, your options include the scrumptious Pittsburgh Pastrami, Fried Chicken and Pancake Sandwich California Chicken, Spicy Buffalo Chicken, and all new salads.
The menu is also brimming with treaty appetizers such as Fried Mac N’Chz, Beer Battered Onion Strings, French Fried Potatoes, Fried Dill Pickle Chips, Spicy Buffalo Chicken Strips, Signature Chili, Slater’s Vampire Dip, Fried Artichoke Hearts, Irish Quesadilla and Sweet Potato Fries. Appetizer Combo options are available for those who want to try a little bit of everything.
Got a thirst that won’t quit? You’ll be happy to learn that Slater’s 50/50 promises to have the most locally tapped brews out of every single non-corporate restaurant in all of San Diego County. Slater’s San Diego boasts 100 taps inside and a “Local Brew Only” outdoor bar with 12 taps that will only feature local beers. Rotating taps will include fan favorites such as Stone Russian Imperial Ale, Ballast Point Big Eye IPA and Stone Arrogant Bastard. Save room for dessert- the tempting offerings include Homemade Bread Pudding, Cococarma and The Newly Famous Bacon Brownie.
