From the plethora of eclectic new eateries consistently popping up on every street corner to the myriad of bars offering up local craft brews and savory drinks, it’s safe to say that North Park boasts one of the most vibrant and diverse dining scenes in San Diego.
However, it’s not very often that you come across a venue that flawlessly combines both elements of restaurant and lounge while managing to fit in with the characteristics of its given neighborhood. But low and behold, the all-new SoHo Restaurant & Lounge has effortlessly made its niche in the North Park scene.
Owner Carlos De Narvaez dubbed the restaurant after the prosperous Manhattan neighborhood, glittered with an influx of excellent restaurants and hip retail shops. To Carlos, San Diego’s colorful neighborhood of North Park shared a similar growth pattern so with a determined view, Carlos set out to make the San Diego SoHo a similar vibrant expansion of the original SoHo in New York City.
With an extensive background in the restaurant industry, Carlos and Executive Chef, Kevin Cedillo showcase a menu that embodies a comfy, chic approach to Southern cuisine with a twist. SoHo serves up creative renditions of traditional Southern favorites with South American influences which include the Lamb Burger with feta cheese, pickled red onion, tapenade, charmoula aioli and a Sadie Rose buttermilk bun; Tilapia Fettucini Gigi with lemon, capers, kalamata olivesm garlic, white wine; Chicken & Chile Verde with honey roasted sweet potatoes; Wood Fired Pequillo Peppers stuffed with goat cheese, roasted garlic cloves and served with toast points; and Moroccan Spiced Meyers Flat Iron Steak with Israeli couscous, black garbanzo beans, dried currant and pomegranate demi glace.
If you’re looking for something a little heartier, indulge in savory comfort food selections such as the Low Country Shrimp & Grits with tasso ham, sautéed shrimp, golden pheasant grits, and southern gravy; Aged Cheddar Hush Puppies with Creole mustard remoulade; Loaded Potato Pizza with creamy garlic sauce, mozzarella, chicken, bacon, roasted potatoes and green onions; and Stuffed Chicken Breast with Mexican cheese, chorizo, tamarind glaze, purple potato hash, and cilantro micro-greens.
SoHo also carries a selection of unique draft beers including Palm Belgian Amber, Stone Smoked Porter, Airdale Dark & Stormy, Shinerbock Hefenweizen, Race 5 IPA, Trumer Pils, Anchor Steam, Duvel Green, Stone Pale Ale and Yellowtail Pale Ale. In addition, SOHO also offers 50% off on all bottles of wine every Tuesday night. Diners can choose from unique flavors including Haras Pirque Chardonnay from Chile; Colombo Rose from France; Wild Horse Viognier from Paso Robles; Laetitia Pinot Noir from Arroyo Grande Valley; Roth Cabernet from Alexander Valley; Tamari Malbec Reserve from Argentina; and Hayman & Hill Meritage “Reserve Colelction” from Monterey.
On the weekends, SoHo offers a hearty selection of breakfast plates alongside $9 bottomless mimosas. Choose from tasty favorites such as Banana Strawberry Foster French Toast with powder sugar and vanilla bean syrup; Southwest Benedict with poached eggs, smoked ham, avocado hollandaise and chipotle polenta cake; Surf & Turf Omelet with shrimp, basil-date cream cheese and bacon; and Morning Pork Burger with fried egg, tomato, sliced avocado and aioli.
