Italian angels heard our cries for creamy chocolate and rich gelato, and delivered the gift of our very own San Diego Chocolat, straight from Milan in September of 2008.
Nearly a year later, this go-to Gaslamp café is adding wine, champagne and mimosas to the already delectable menu of crepes, hand-made chocolates, fresh bistro bites, and authentic Italian gelatos.
We locals must have really done something right in 2009…
San Diego Chocolat in Gaslamp Quarter is the flagship U.S. store for the quickly-expanding brand of chic boutique creameries based in Milan, Italy. Chocolat showcases authentic recipes and time-honored traditions of Italy’s gelato and pastry artistry. This petite café offers over a dozen gelato flavors made daily from top-of-the-line ingredients that include cinnamon, vanilla, chili, anise, balsamic vinegar, and citrus fruits mixed with rich chocolate guanaja, gascon, roc-lait, and virgule.
If the dream of legit gelato doesn’t put an extra skip in your step down Fifth, spirits from the new exotic drink menu sure will. Favorites include Chocolate Ports, Pomegranate Mimosas, Blood Orange Cosmopolitans and Australian Layer Cake Shiraz.
If those Blood Orange Cosmopolitans leave your hungrier for more than a third scoop of gelato, jump over to the new bar area overlooking Fifth Avenue and try one of the new mozzarella plates, including cow milk ovaline and burrata.
When non-fat frozen yogurt just won’t cut it, head to the Mecca of all things chocolate in downtown San Diego – Chocolat Cremerie.
Insider Tip: Although we locals were first to fall in love with Chocolat, the Italian angels are gifting new U.S. cities with chic creameries in 2010, such as Orange County and Las Vegas.
