Couples Sushi-Making Classes at Café Japengo – March 17 & April 21
Couples that cook together, stay together. Especially when sake tasting is involved. Café Japengo is hosting sushi-making classes for couples on two afternoons this spring. Executive Sushi Chef Jerry Warner will teach foodies how to handle sticky rice and how to form all varieties of rolls and hand rolls. Two sake tastings will be served, and whatever you make, you can eat at the end of class. Classes are offered on Saturday, March 17 and Saturday, April 21 from noon to 2pm, priced at $60 per person. 2nd Annual Tour de Cuisine – March 24-April 1
Eat your way through a culinary tour of San Diego’s finest French restaurants this spring. During the 2nd Annual Tour de Cuisine, seven local restaurants will offer multi-course prix-fixe menus at discounted prices. Participating eateries include BO-beau kitchen + bar, The Marine Room, The French Gourmet, Vagabond, Vincent’s, Bleu Boheme and The WineSellar & Brasserie. Evolve: The Cambrian Event at Fixtures Living – March 30 & 31
Evolve Cuisine Forward is a new pop-up dining concept and catering company with a modern approach to food and foodie events, run by chef Daniel Barron and pastry chef Jeff Bonilla. Following a successful launch at The Wellington, The Cambrian Event is taking place at Fixtures Living, featuring a seven- to 12-course dinner menu that has not yet been released as of this post. “Shuck & Swallow” at Jsix Restaurant – April 11
The Hotel Solamar’s signature restaurant Jsix takes our obsession with oyster eating to a new level of foodie run during the annual “Shuck & Swallow” event. After a year-long hiatus, the man vs. mollusk event returns on Wednesday, April 11, featuring ten teams of two oyster eaters, ten local celebrity judges, and ten food and drink specials. Newly confirmed participants will represent Jsix, Pacifica Del Mar, Blue Point, Gaijin Noodle House and Saltbox during the ultimate oyster showdown. Free for viewers. Get details here
Le Dîner à San Diego – May 25
The first of its kind in Southern California, Le Dîner à San Diego is an edgy pop-up dining concept that is best described as an eco-conscious outdoor picnic meets ultra-exclusive flash mob. The buzz is building for this unique culinary experience, which is taking reservations now, and begins official registration on Friday, March 25. The location is a mystery, the dress code is all white, and guests must bring their own chairs, among other fun party favors. Last year in San Francisco, 3,500 people attended.
