Stone Belgian Beer Dinner at West Coast Tavern

Posted On : 3/24/2011 by Ryan Eisenacher

Located in the heart of the eclectically cultivated community of North Park, West Coast Tavern serves up the perfect blend of rustic history and rich modern ambiance.

Residing in one of the neighborhood’s most distinguished buildings, West Coast greets you with high ceilings adorned with embellished silver tiles that glimmer just above protruding lit lettering that reads “West Coast” – a memorable relic of the venue’s past. Inside, dim red hues create a relaxing atmosphere and set the tone for dinner or Happy Hour set in oversized burgundy booths underneath antique chandeliers or outside on the open-air patio with personal fire pit tables. As you peruse the menu, soothing images of the California coast, warming fire places, and popular – circa the 1960s – dance instruction fill eight plasma screens that line the dark wood walls around you.

Stone Belgian Beer Dinner: Celebrated for brewing some of the best "big character" beers in the world, San Diego-based Stone microbrewery will be the highlight for West Coast Tavern’s inaugural monthly craft beer dinner series. On Monday, March 28th, Executive Chef Peter Zakarian will introduce a unique Stone Belgian Beer menu complete with four courses of upscale comfort foods that place a spin on common entrees.

For $50 per person, this delectable dining experience is guaranteed to delight the senses. The first course begins with mixed micro greens, shaved Grana Padano cheese, poached pears and Duvel roasted New Zealand black mussels paired with Duvel Golden Ale. The second course follows with a heartier selection of Wild Boar Ribs slow braised in Maredsous brown ale and served with black fig chutney, chipped potatoes baked in duck fat and a frothy vat of Maredsous. The third course, comprised of Dungness crab crusted filet medallion, roasted purple fingerlings, beer braised broccolini, topped with Dobbelin IPA pan sauce and paired with a delicious mug of Chouffe Dobbelin IPA trippel, is sure to satisfy any craving. For the last course, guests can curb their sweet tooth with grilled apricots in Belgian triple custard and a toasted pistachio crisp served with Liefmans cherry hinted Cuvee Brut.

This unique kickoff event series is guaranteed to provide a memorable dining experience that is rich in history and modernized to fit into the eclectic North Park mix.
