Call me crazy, but one would think that working in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter would equate to a gazillion and one options for midday dining. Sigh. This is unfortunately far from the case.
Don’t get me wrong, I love Subway with all my heart and soul, but how many times can you really buy a five…five…five dolla footlooooooong?! It gets monotonous, man! And sure, I would love to sit down for a fancy schmancy two and half hour lunch every day of the week, but let’s be honest here – there is no time for such extravagancies if I want to leave the office before midnight.
Hallelujah San Diego foodies! If you’re anything like me and are in dire need of revamping your redundant daily dining grind, you are in luck. The Food Gods are here to help!
Targeted towards downtown San Diego professionals, entrepreneurs, and weekday warriors, one of our favorite restaurants now provides hungry lunchtime locals with fast fine dining in a chic, urban setting. Starting in May, The Glass Door serves up an all-new lunch menu comprised of flavorful-packed plates paired with luscious martinis, cocktails and wines that offer a welcoming reprieve from customary midday meal trends.
Diners in search of a light and healthy fare will marvel over the refreshing spread of nutritious menu items including The Lock Smith, made with baby greens, frisee, heirloom tomatoes, bacon, garbanzo beans, 6-minute egg, avocado cilantro dressing, and a tortilla wheel; Tuned Up, a thick slice of sesame crusted ahi tuna topped with melon, asparagus, red pepper, wasabi vinaigrette and cilantro oil; the Caprese, made with smoked tomato, grilled eggplant, mozzarella, arugula, fried basil, strawberry balsamic and crustini; and The Low, Chef’s wholesome spin on the traditional Philly cheesesteak made with NY Strip, heirloom tomato, horseradish vinaigrette, gorgonzola and crispy onion strings in a bed of butter lettuce.
If you’re looking for something with a bit more substance try all-new sandwich combinations such as the 2 Gunz, with cecils bourbon sausage, caramelized onions, cherry peppers and drizzled with apple mustard and stuffed in a French roll; the Chicken Sando, packed with grilled chicken, smoked tomato, arugula and sun dried tomato aioli; or the must-try BTB, a sweet and salty combination of bacon, blueberry-jalapeno jam, tomato, manchego and mascarpone. Or choose a massive, mouthwatering burger such as The Maui, topped with charred pineapple, gruyere and pineapple BBQ sauce; or The Cali, a unique take on the traditional California burrito, with red pepper spread, crispy potatoes, tomato puree and avocado.
Having a case of the Mondays and need some liquid courage to make it through the rest of the day without screaming at your irritating coworker? No problemo! Sip and savor one of The Glass Door’s signature cocktails including the supremely spicy Big Bad Wolf, made with house infused bacon vodka, chipotle, and pickle juice; the thirst-quenching Self Medicating Cocktail, with aviation, square one cucumber, basil, mint and apple; the action-packed Hells Kitchen Manhattan, made with Jameson, bitters, sweet vermouth, patron citronage and OJ; or the sweet and savory Fourth Floor, made with Ketel One oranje, berries, mint and Clementine soda. And you can never go wrong with Karl Strauss Endless Summer Light or Ballast Point Wahoo Wheat.
The Glass Door’s new lunch menu is served Monday through Friday from 11:30am to 2pm. For more details and reservations please call 866.740.5270 or visit The Glass Door in Little Italy.
