A fixture on the San Diego Harbor for nearly four decades, Tom Ham's Lighthouse offers dramatic architecture and breath-taking seaside vistas, as well as some of the best upscale dining in the city.
Originally built around a functioning lighthouse assigned the moniker "Beacon #9" by the Coast Guard, the restaurant is now run by the Ham family's second generation and has menu options for lunch, dinner, and happy hour. Also notable is the stellar Champagne Brunch that runs from 9:30-2:00 p.m. on Sunday and has won the San Diego Restaurant Association's "Best Brunch" accolades three years straight.
Some of Executive Chef Erik Sarkisian's most popular selections include Seafood Newburg, a delightful mixture of jumbo shrimp, lobster, scallops, and sea bass baked with Chef Tom's special Newberg sauce and Shrimp Diablo, which consists of bacon-wrapped jumbo gulf shrimp, stuffed with parsley butter, served with creamy sun-dried tomato rice and vegetables. Entrees range in price from $18-45. Dessert recommendations include the Crème Brulee and a homemade CranApple Dumpling. And why not relax with the Lighthouse's signature cocktail, "Beacon #9," while watching the local boats float lazily across the harbor?
Interestingly, Tom Ham's Lighthouse was also once a functioning maritime museum, but was forced to close due to thefts of various artifacts. Nevertheless, the nautical décor still contains a few key pieces for the diner's viewing pleasure. In addition, two banquet rooms, California Grand Ballroom and Harbor View Room, house large events and hold more than 300 people collectively. Catering is also available.
Good food, relaxing evenings with pleasant company and incomparable views of the Pacific are the very reasons we live in San Diego. Enjoy them all (along with plenty of free parking) at Tom Ham's Lighthouse in San Diego.
