Restaurant Impossible: If you’ve caught a glimpse of this Food Network show, you’re well-versed with Chef Robert Irvine’s antics, boldly renovating America’s most desperate restaurants from impending failure in two days with only $10,000. His creativity and resourcefulness, along with muscle and optimism, rescues popular eateries and investigates what could lead to their downfall.
It’s all fun and entertainment until one of our own San Diego restaurants ends up on the show, in dire need of Robert’s help. The Trails Neighborhood Eatery, the adorable café owned and run by Stacey Poon-Kinney, was most recently featured on Restaurant Impossible, September 21st. At risk of closing down their kitchen, The Trails seems to have benefited greatly from the show's influence.
“Stacey and The Trails staff grew immensely, both professionally and personally in the two days that Robert and his team were transforming,” writes The Trails website.
After Restaurant Impossible's takeover and makeover, The Trails announced a new dinner menu developed by Robert, featuring prime rib, roasted chicken, spaghetti with salmon meatballs and a large selection of gluten free and vegetarian items. It also includes various appetizers such as the Tuna Cube, a Calamari Sauté, and All-American Sliders. Popular entrees include a Roast Tomato Cous Cous, Grilled Tuna, Top Sirloin, or Freida’s Meatloaf, bacon wrapped with onion gravy and mashed potatoes. For dessert, opt for Mom’s Famous Cheesecake.
The Trails is most known for their daily breakfast and lunch options, a hidden gem off the beaten path perfect for starting off the day on the right foot. The breakfast selection includes Cinnamon Roll Pancakes, Blueberry Multigrain Pancakes, an Eggs Benedict, Raisin French Toast, and a variety of omelette options. The lunch menu includes a Philly Steak Sandwich, Grilled Tuna Sandwich, Handcrafted Burgers, and a Walnut & Bleu Cheese Salad.
The episode continues to reply on The Food Network, and will air again on Sunday, October 2nd at 1pm. The Trails Neighborhood Eatery is located at 7389 Jackson Dr. The restaurant is open 7am to 3pm every day for breakfast and lunch, and from 5pm to 9pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays for dinner.
