Top Ten Restaurants for Healthy Cuisine

Published : 8/17/2006 by Kirsten Noelle Hubbard

While many restaurants offer healthy choices in their extensive menus, it’s almost impossible to make a healthful selection when those mozzarella cheese sticks are making your mouth water. Here are ten places where you can’t help eating healthy—and we promise, you’ll enjoy every bite.

Kung Foods

If you’re vegan-curious, this is the place to go. Not a single animal-based product can be found among their hot and cold deli-style selections, which range from salads to burritos to fiery barbecue.

Cilantro Live!

San Diego County’s only totally raw restaurant. Yes, you heard it right. For bold souls who don’t mind eating like bunnies, some of the items are downright delicious.

Daily’s

Offers a “Heart-Healthy” menu that’s as delicious as it is nutritious, with items such as three-bean and corn chili, southwest chicken wraps, and fresh-squeezed sparkling lemonade.

Mama Testa’s

The only restaurant in town that serves up solely free-range meat. That means happy chickens, and even happier tummies. There are also many great Mexican selections for vegetarians, like avocado taquitos.

Crest Café

Home cooking was never this healthy. A lip smacking selection of fresh juices, alongside nourishing entrees like chicken artichoke salad and pesto veggie sandwiches.

Region

Emphasizing fresh, local produce and other products in elegant simplicity, this Hillcrest restaurant features fare like organic salads, ricotta ravioli, grilled albacore, and melon sorbet.

Celadon Thai

Dozens of healthy, exotic choices—just choose the chicken or tofu over the other types of meat.

Kemo Sabe

Pacific Rim cuisine with Native American flair. Try the vegetarian platter, “Good Things Growing”, even if you’re a carnivore—it’s like a patchwork quilt of different flavors, and a portion of proceeds are donated to the San Diego Humane Society.

Bombay Exotic Cuisine of India

So vegetarian friendly! So delicious! Also try sister restaurants, Monsoon, Blue Ginger, and Masala Spices of India.

Spread

This tiny, funky restaurant offers a short menu of delicious, ever-changing items, all featuring a different nut-based spread. Every gorgeous dish is sprinkled with edible flowers, and based with organic products.

If I could, I would

If I could have Crest cater my every meal, I would. Whenever healthy food tastes this good ... the restaurant's a definite keeper

Spread

Spread is located at 2879 University Ave in North Park. It serves the prettiest food you've ever seen, covered with edible flowers picked fresh each morning :)

Region Restaurant

It's too bad region closed. I loved that place. I like Modus as an alternative but it's a little overpriced and the menu is a little too small/similar.
