Top Ten Breakfast Eateries

There’s no reason to wait until the sun goes down to enjoy some of San Diego’s finest restaurants. This weekend, wake up a little earlier than usual and head out to one of the following breakfast establishments.

Crest Café

A popular Hillcrest hotspot, Crest Café serves up good, traditional comfort food to breakfast-hungry locals.

Broken Yolk

This Pacific Beach icon is famous for its twelve-egg omelette and mimosa specials, but Broken Yolk also offers an array of breakfast choices, from chocolate chip pancakes to Mexican machaca.

La Vache
Don’t expect a paltry continental breakfast at La Vache, an elegant French bistro in Hillcrest with casual service and a menu of unforgettable options.

Bino’s European Coffee & Crepes

Located just across the Coronado Bridge, Bino’s caters to the European palette, with a large variety of pastries, crepes, and omelettes, perfect temptations for a lazy morning.

Eggery Etc.

It’s Americana overload at the Eggery, a Pacific Beach breakfast spot, where the food is as wholesome on Saturday morning as Garnet is lascivious on Friday night.

The Mission

With locations in North Park and Pacific Beach, The Mission’s famous rosemary potatoes are never far away.

Hash House A Go-Go

If you’re not hungry when you arrive at this Hillcrest favorite, you will be by the time you’re seated. Fortunately, the portions at Hash House A Go-Go are large enough to make you forget you ever knew the definition of the word “hungry”.

Extraordinary Desserts

Dessert for breakfast? Why not? Extraordinary Desserts opens early so you can beat the crowd and sit in peace on the patio while you indulge in coffee cake and Kona coffee.

Wired Café

A quaint little bistro in the middle of a bustling La Jolla shopping center, Wired Café le Bistro is a hidden gem, full of tantalizing croissant and crepe options.

Pipes

Enjoy your coffee with an ocean breeze at Pipes, where breakfast burritos and pancake combos are bigger than the waves you’ll see from the patio of this popular breakfast café.

Broken Yolk is overrated ...

I don't know if it's just me, but I think the Broken Yolk is overrated. I support the other choice (especially Pipes... shout out to Cardiff), but Broken Yolk is just a big name.. I've never been all that impressed with the food. Maybe that's why the Broken Yolk in Encinitas shut down.. Pipes took all it's business.

Broken Yolk IS All It's Cracked Up to Be!

I have to disagree with Reggie. The Broken Yolk, while a morning staple of every PB surfer and yuppie, is consistent in quality and atmosphere. Every time I go there, I always leave satisfied.

Pipe Cafe

I totally agree about Pipes Cafe in Cardiff. I go to San Diego a lot (I have cousins in La Costa) and make sure to get to Pipes at lease once per trip. I think I actually first read about Pipes while on a business trip out there. I read an article about how Trevor Hoffman likes to go there, as well as other baseball players. I've never seen Hoffman there, but I'm sure I will one of these days!

dessert for breakfast

Wow, I had never considered going to Extraordinary Desserts for breakfast before, and I go to breakfast places at least four times per week. Maybe I'll be one of the crazy ones to venture into that zone next time and have myself a slice of CHOCOLATE cake for breakfast haha

Breakfast Aficienado

If you are a breakfast fiend, you haven't been in La Jolla until you have gone to "Harry's," on Girard for breakfast.... Been here since the 60's, family owned, and one of the best classic diners EVER, and the staff in general is awesome from the busboys to audacious server staff... Keep your eyes peeled for "The Coffee Cup," on Wall St. for an abstract ala Harry's...
