Every year at midnight on September the 15th, the President of Mexico rings the bell of the National Palace in Mexico City. Thousands of residents shout the El Grito, an emblematic cry of Mexican patriotism that honors the crucial and impulsive action that was the catalyst for the country's struggle for independence from Spain.
This year, September 16th marks the 200th Anniversary of Mexican Independence Day and to honor this historic observance the Spirits of Mexico Festival will be returning to San Diego's own historic Old Town for a vivacious week-long celebration.
As a proud sponsor and participant, Café Coyote will host the Finals of the Agave Spirits Festival’s Sangrita Challenge presented by Living Liquid Magazine. During the celebration, Café Coyote will present a slideshow from Mexico City’s El Grito at 6:30pm in the Puerto Vallarta Room, followed by a live reenactment with Tequila Ambassador Mario Marquez at 8:30pm.
Join National Tequila Examiner Ryan Kelley and two other special guests to observe the final judging process, taste all six finalist entry cocktails and select your favorites while delighting in mouth-watering and inventive Mexican cuisine from one of San Diego’s most authentic restaurants, Café Coyote. Tickets are $25 per person in advance and $30 cash only at the door. Viva Mexico!
