With Del Mar Racetrack season in full swing, we are spending every moment of free time obsessing over what’s new and what’s hot in Del Mar. Sure, the racetrack is full of iconic entertainment, but the full Del Mar experience just isn’t complete without dinner, drinks, and after-partying at the best Del Mar restaurants and bars.
Just a few of my recommended Del Mar hot spots include KITCHEN 1540 at L’Auberge, Market, Addison at The Grand Del Mar, The Brigantine, Jake's, En Fuego, the brand new Burlap in Del Mar Highlands, and Flavor at Del Mar Plaza. Although I do have my go-to favorites, I’m always open to trying new places. And lucky for me, the brains behind Flavor just opened a new wine bar and lounge, also located in the Plaza, just around the corner from the racetrack.
Restaurateur and owner of Flavor Del Mar, Jeff Hunter and his culinary team will celebrate the opening of SIP in mid July. An intimate wine bar and lounge located just behind Flavor, SIP will provide Plaza guests with a stylish and cozy environment designed by Thomas Schoos, and a simple menu that focuses on specialty cheeses and charcuteries. Most notable, SIP boasts a custom built meat curing room that will produce house-made creations such as boar sausage, duck prosciutto and finocchiona, a salami flavored with fennel seeds.
But of course, the primary allure of SIP will be the diverse wine program designed by Astolfi, with help from a new addition to the team, Chuy Galvan, who is certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers and formerly of La Valencia and George’s in La Jolla. SIP’s wine program will feature approximately 40 wines by the glass ranging in price from $8-$30. A selection of local craft beers and specialty cocktails will also be available.
SIP at Flavor Del Mar is slated to open the week of July 25, and will be open Monday-Friday from 4:30pm to close and Saturday-Sunday from 12:30 pm to close. For more information, visit Flavor in Del Mar.
