Yogurt World in San Diego: The Ultimate Frozen Yogurt Experience

Published : 10/17/2007 by Meg Day

San Diego metro's eastern community of Kearny Mesa holds the key to all your frozen yogurt desires with Yogurt World.

It looks something like this: 16 flavors (everything from basic vanilla custard, peanut butter and cookies & cream to the ever-popular - albeit bizarre - green tea, asian peach, and black sesame), over 30 toppings (including freshly cut fruit, various cereals, Mochi balls, the traditional syrups, and every candy you can think of), and one giant styrofoam cup.

Feeling confused? You're not alone; one must make the journey to this San Diego frozen yogurt mecca to truly understand. And although the service is friendly, it won't make much difference when it comes to your frozen yogurt - everything at Yogurt World is self-serve.

A Guide to San Diego's Yogurt World:

1. Brave the parking lot. Yogurt World is located near Tofu House on Convoy, and you must battle the insanity of its design in order to achieve frozen yogurt nirvana.

2. Stand in line. There will always be a line at Yogurt World, consisting mostly of college kids. Don't worry - it moves quickly, and there are rewards for those who wait.

3. Stay calm. Once you're in the door, chaos ensues. Grab a styrofoam cup and cautiously exit the line to get a taste cup from the cash register. The taste cup is important and vital to a positive Yogurt World experience.

4. Try before you buy. This is an important rule. If the label says tart and you think you like tart things, think again.

5. Toppings are essential. While the layout of Yogurt World suggests you leave the toppings for the end, this is no fun for the taste buds. I suggest leaving the line every flavor or so to get toppings. That way you won't get to the end and have to put your fresh strawberries on top of your pistachio frozen yogurt, or - and nothing's worse - not have room for any toppings at all.

6. Pay. Frozen yogurt at Yogurt World costs 38 cents per ounce. If that sounds a little steep, remember that you're paying for the experience - and as soon as you dig in, you'll forget all about money anyway.

Bonus Points: Yogurt World has both dairy-free and sugar-free frozen yogurt options. They're also open late!

Yogurt World in Kearny Mesa

Yogurt World is awesome! There's no place else like it in San Diego! Unfortunately for my buddy Jay, he was one of the confused ones that wasn't aware they charge according to weight... So he filled that sucker to the brim and then some! As long as you keep that in mind, it's definitely worth a visit.
