Published : 7/8/2008 by Michelle Guerin

In anticipation of the first annual Fashion Week San Diego, we've bi-weekly updated you on all the need-to-know event and designer information.

Event alert: To celebrate Opening Day at the Del Mar Racetrack, re-wear your best hat at the re-grand opening of Bayley Boutique in Del Mar on Thursday, July 17 from 5-9pm. All guests will sip and nibble complimentary cocktails and sweets, and the guest with the best hat will win two VIP tickets to Fashion Week San Diego ($800 value). For more info on Opening Day, get details here.

If you've been slacking on your style homework, read up on Fashion Week Location and Designers here, and Fashion Week Events and Runway Shows here. For those who have kept up to the fashionably last detail, we're rewarding you this week with an exclusive Q&A with Allison Andrews, President of Fashion Week San Diego.

From the perfect Fashion Week designer outfit to fall fashion must-haves and fashion show must-knows, discover an Insider glance at Fashion Week San Diego with the lovely Allison Andrews.

Q: If you could create an outfit - head to toe - using FWSD designer pieces, what would you wear, and where would you wear it?

A: If I had it my way, I would wear 13 layers of clothing, two handbags and a ton of jewelry, but I guess that's why they don't let me dress myself.

I wear styles from all Fashion Week designers, each for a different occasion. I love Jorge Corella or Ximena Valero (pictured) on nights I want to have an elegant evening at the W Hotel. For a night out on the town with the girls of FWSD, we usually head to the Hard Rock Hotel and I might opt for Lauren-Elaine, Sugar Couture or Watch Me! by Petra O.

I love Italian food and my favorite restaurant downtown is Dussini, where I would probably wear Amillie, Nelli or Stacie May. We have been heading down to Mexico pretty frequently, and I will usually bring along some pieces by Sergio Alcala and Parris Harris - I can get away with more down there, you know? You will always find Charmone Shoes on my toes and MADE Jewelry on my ears.

Q: Can you give us an audience teaser? What celebrities are expected to be strutting the San Diego streets in September/Oct?

A: Socialites, boutique owners, designers, musicians, buyers, actors ... you name it! There has been a lot of interest in FWSD from the cities to our north and south, and you will see some recognizable faces from each. It will be a wonderfully eclectic mix of famous and infamous fashion lovers who are looking for something new - both in designers and in events. The designers are undiscovered gems and the event will incorporate the highest levels of customer service. No matter who you are, come to our event expecting to be catered to.

Q: What fall trends should men and women pick-up to wear to the FWSD tent, and where should they look?

A: Fashion Week San Diego will be showcasing spring 2009 fashions, but we still know a thing or two about fall fashion. For the ladies, we are going to see dresses in a major way. Dresses should emphasize the waist without being fitted too tightly. We are going to see a lot of jewel tones this fall as well.

For guys, blue is the hottest color this fall. We will also see an influx of floral embellishments from embroidery to prints. The evolution of synthetic fabrics is continuing, and we recommend unique textiles in unexpected colors. Be sure to adorn your best and brightest at the Sergio Alcala show.

We have narrowed down a list of our top ten favorite boutiques in San Diego and you can check them out on our site at fashionweeksd.com/shopping. In addition to being able to pick up some of San Diego's best trends, you can also buy tickets inside each of these locations.

Q: How informed-of-fashion should the FWSD tent-goers be?

A: Our goal is to "wow" the audience, no matter who they are. Industry professionals will be encountering the undiscovered fashion gem that has been thriving in San Diego and Mexico. Sure, we're known for events like ASR, but there is another fashion culture that thrives in San Diego and we can't wait to unleash it.

Those not in the fashion industry will be equally entertained by the parade of models adorning never-before-seen spring 2009 styles and incredible hair creations from Extensionista.com. The event will be infused with social, high-energy elements, exciting music and unparalleled entertainment.
