For those who have kept up to the fashionably last detail, we're rewarding you this week with an exclusive Q&A with lead Fashion Week designer Fuegorosa from Tijuana, Mexico.
Q: How did you become a fashion designer?
A: From a very early age I was always interested in fashion and clothing. Color and fabric also became important inspiration for me. I would see both of these elements and visualize what I wanted to create, it was an instant process. As soon as I graduated from high school I knew I wanted to be in the fashion industry for the rest of my life. Dance and art have also been two sources of great inspiration.
Q: Describe your line. Where can people find it?
A: Fuegorosa is an eclectic mix of influences, from the exotic and mysterious Mediterranean, the colorful Andalusian province in Spain and details from French vintage chic. I also hand paint a lot of the fabric to give it a special finish. Currently my line can be purchased directly through me by special order. This fall, the line will be available in select boutiques in San Diego.
Q: Tell us about Fashion Week San Diego and how you got involved.
A: Fashion Week San Diego is a bi-national event featuring designers from México and Southern California. It is an excellent platform in which to showcase your collection and for the industry and general public to see all the talent in both regions, especially Mexico. It is a wonderful opportunity to represent my city, Tijuana, and for my line to make an important fashion statement thru the trends I am proposing.
Q: Aside from your show, what are you most excited for at FWSD?
A: To be a part of the first ever Fashion Week San Diego, it is a pivotal event that was long over due, it needed to happen. San Diego is a cosmopolitan city, it has the potential to be a fashion capital and establish trends like the other fashion capitals of the world.
Q: At Fashion Week, all designers will be showcasing their spring 2009 lines. What do you think will be the biggest trends for spring?
A: Jumpsuits and one-piece suits will be an important trend. Also, swing and kimono shapes, wide bell sleeves and draped details in all types of garments. As far as color, bright pinks, a broad spectrum of purple tones and aqua blues with a green undertone. Copper is the next metallic tone.
