2008 Fashion Week San Diego: Stacie May Designer Profile

Published : 8/18/2008 by DiscoverSD

Fashion Week San Diego has been rescheduled for October 2-5, 2008. Get all the updated FWSD details here.

In anticipation of the first annual Fashion Week San Diego, we've bi-weekly updated you on all the need-to-know event and designer information.

If you've been slacking on your style homework, enter to win VIP tickets to Fashion Week here, read up on location and designers here, and Fashion Week events and runway shows here. For those who have kept up to the fashionably last detail, we're rewarding you this week with an exclusive Q&A with lead Fashion Week designer Stacie May.

Q: How did you become a fashion designer?

A: I've always had a love of and been surrounded by art in all its forms. After much exploration and experimentation with many forms of art throughout my early life, I decided that fashion was my favorite creative outlet that I needed to pursue.

Q: Describe your line. Where can people find it?

A: The Stacie May collection is a fun, flattering, and graceful, vintage-inspired yet timeless line. Stacie May can be found at www.staciemay.com and of course, on Tuesday night September 30th, during Fashion Week San Diego.

Q: Tell us about FWSD and how you got involved.

A: Fashion Week San Diego came about for me when a very influential person in my life brought my attention to Allison Andrews and her vision for FWSD. When I discovered what Allison's plan was for San Diego and fashion, I just knew I had to be part of it. I contacted Allison to volunteer my services and instead she asked me if I wanted to show my collection!

Q: Aside from your show, what are you most excited for at FWSD?

A: I'm excited that Fashion Week will help to promote the growth and awareness of fashion in San Diego. San Diego is fast becoming a very urban cultural icon with its developing reputation for great music, art, and theater. Fashion Week San Diego will only enhance that cultural reputation by putting San Diego on the map for fashion as well.

Q: At FWSD, all of the designers will be showcasing their Spring 2009 lines. What do you think will be the biggest trend for spring?

A: Fashion, art, and music trends are usually heavily influenced by world current events and public vibe. With the growing concern for the environment and the returning love for nature, I think the use of colors and cuts that are influenced by nature, as well as a comeback for natural fibers will be key for upcoming trends.
