The Del Mar Racetrack, San Diego’s most stylish and thrilling annual event, is back for its action-packed summer season, kicking off with Opening Day festivities on July 20 and running through September 7, 2011.
As we look ahead to Del Mar summer fun, we must first get our high fashion in line. And everyone knows the most essential style accessory at the track is a fabulous hat. From chic wide-brimmed beauties adorned with silk flowers, to vintage black and white classics, and edgy feather-frilled pieces that extend into the sky, haute headgear is the quintessential fashion staple for where the turf meets the surf in Del Mar.
In preparation for Opening Day festivities, The Village Hat Shop is hosting an exclusive trunk show featuring the new Fall & Winter 2011 Collection from esteemed designer Arturo Rios, on Saturday, July 16 from 12 to 3pm.
Arturo Rios is one of the hottest hat designers in Southern California, and if you rock one of his styles to the Del Mar Racetrack, you’re sure to be the talk of the town all season long. Arturo Rios began creating hats in 2001 after meeting the legendary Italian hat designer Karen Indreland. Learning her skills and techniques, while adding his own distinctive flair, Arturo’s signature line was born, and it didn’t take long for the word to spread. In translating his ideas into brilliant headpieces made from bold colors, unique fabrics, daring embellishments, and exotic and flexible feathers, the LA-based designer creates memorable, statement-making headwear perfect for stylish San Diego women. Looking outside Del Mar, many A-List celebrities are huge Arturo Rios fans, including Daisy Fuentes, Paris Hilton, Cheryl Burke, and Juliette Lewis. And most recently, Arturo Rios headpieces were spotted in high-end fashion magazines covering the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton.
A few must-have Arturo Rios headpieces include the classic April, a large brim hat made of beige Taffeta with champagne printed roses all over the prim, adorned with a big silk rose and Peacock Flue feathers. For the perfect mix of floral allure and daring edge, rock the Orchid, a headpiece made on a oval base, covered with a green and gold silk fabric, adorned with a silk orchid, iridescent Peacock and black feathers (pictured above). For an adorable bright summer look, choose the daring Linda, a golden yellow headpiece made on a flat pillbox base, covered with beaded silk, and adorned with two silk poppy flowers and Coque feathers. If you’re looking for some drama, opt for the Georgia, a cocktail headpiece made on a flat pillbox base, covered with a beautiful multi color brocade fabric, adorned with three silk flowers, Coque feathers, and an antique veil with velvet dots (pictured left).
