Ask Jenny: His and Her Cow Costumes for Halloween

Published : 10/18/2007 by Jenny Herman

Q: My boyfriend and I want to have themed costumes this year for Halloween, but he refuses to choose anything cute. He wants us to be cows - seriously. How in the world do I make a cow costume cute?

Dear "Udderly" In Need,

Well, we have to admit it's very sweet that your boyfriend wants to share a themed Halloween costume with you. But on the other hand, some boys have NO clue when it comes to looking cute. Luckily, I have a plan that allows both of you to wear cow costumes for Halloween, and you can still look cute and sexy.

You have a good excuse. I don't think a cow costume is even made for women; unless you are extremely little and can fit into a child's size. There are a few creative alternatives to dressing as a cow: how about a cute Milk Maid or a sexy Cowgirl?

Halloween is slowly approaching, so I would act quickly before time runs out. In San Diego, there is the Spirit Halloween Superstore that has a few different cowgirl outfits. Also, for more costume options and if there is no need to try one on, there are a few websites that sell Halloween costumes and ensure a timely delivery.

For example, I found this Millie the Milk Maid Halloween costume at Candy Apple Costumes. It somewhat resembles a cow, but is much cuter than a baggy men's cow costume.

As for the cowgirl costume, this one from 3 Wishes would be perfect for you! It evens comes complete with a lasso, so you can have some fun and rope in your "cow man" whenever you like.

Some of these Halloween costumes can get pretty costly, especially since you're wearing them just one night of the year. If you're on a lower budget, a cowgirl outfit is fairly easy to create yourself as well. You can find almost everything you need in your very own closet (including all your girlfriends' closets, of course!). All you need is a jean skirt, a collared plaid or western-style blouse, a cowgirl hat and cowboy boots. If you do not own any cowboy boots, any calf-length boots will work. Accessories can include a rope to be used as a lasso and a big belt buckle. Don't forget to wear your hair in cute braids.
